Filling Pharmacy Technician

A Pharmacy Technician is responsible for submitting claims for accounts and works with physician offices, insurance companies, and pharmacy customers to ensure timely claims adjudication of online submission of claims and preparing orders for filling. It is expected that all prescriptions will be processed with precision and accuracy and in a timely manner. Employees in this position shall possess a high level of service and processing skills. The Pharmacy Processor position also provides support with filling prescriptions with job duties involving performing all tasks necessary to ensure the timely filling of prescriptions and maintaining operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Calculate and/or verify the correct dosage based on the prescription
  • Enter new and refill orders in a timely and accurate manner
  • Process orders based on the priority assigned
  • Prepares prescription labels according to Law and/or Policy
  • Review and research rejected Third-Party claims taking appropriate action to resolve
  • Manage assigned queues keeping up-to-date and current on all claims
  • Consult with dispensing pharmacist regarding prescription order clarification and order entry problems or concerns
  • Complete all data fields according to pharmacy procedures including use of approved abbreviations
  • Understand insurance billing requirements
  • Follow through work flow
  • Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Complete patient paperwork related to the filling of prescription (intake of written and electronic prescriptions)
  • Accurately count and dispense medications*
  • Maintains records by recording and filing physicians' orders and prescriptions
  • * Does not perform final check of the prescriptions
  • Other duties as assigned

Other Requirements:

  • Active California pharmacy technician license in good standing
  • Possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
  • Minimum age requirement is 18
  • Adhere to all Federal, State and Local regulations as they pertain to the Pharmacy operation
  • Entry-Level familiarity with basic computer software programs (email, word processing, etc.)
  • General office skills (calculator, typing/computer keyboard, copier, filing, fax and phone)
  • Detail oriented and the ability to follow-up

Preferred Requirements:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
  • Experience in pharmacy, medical, managed care, Medi-Cal and/or Medicare organizations, Long Term Care

    • M – F with hours between 9am and 6:30pm
    • M – F with hours between 8am and 7pm, Saturdays 9-5:30pm on rotation with possibility of Sundays with department growth
  • Floater (between all 8 San Diego locations) M – F with hours between 8am and 7pm, Saturdays 9-2pm on occasion
